Liberation and legacy.
The Exotic Women series reflects on the changing role of women in a liberated society, contrasting the allure of the exotic with the familiarity of the commonplace. For me, beauty is not about escapism but about change. As I’ve said, ‘The point is to change the larger consciousness of who we are as people: to re-order the system rather than letting the economic and political world continue to degrade.’
As Richard Speer describes in From the Heart: Sculpture by Martin Eichinger, the series illustrates my intent to use beauty ‘not as an end in itself, but as a device to capture people’s attention… and carry them into an idea that goes beyond the beauty on the surface.’
For a deeper understanding of the themes and process behind these works, the book offers further context and insights.
