Dance on the edge.
The Post Modern series explores the challenge of capturing the kinesthetics of dance in a static form. To heighten the sense of balance and control, I placed the figures on unique geometric posts—square, triangle, pentagon, and hexagon—each subtly interacting with the figure atop. These sculptures are more than formal experiments; they invite questions about ambiguity, double meanings, and even a critique of Postmodernism as an aesthetic and philosophical movement.
Richard Speer reflects on these works in From the Heart: Sculpture by Martin Eichinger, noting that they are ‘as far from the glib pastiche of Postmodernism as an artist might possibly venture.’
The book delves deeper into these ideas and the creative process behind them.
