Primal Knowledge questions the nature of intelligence. Is knowledge a uniquely human trait? If books are the repositories for knowledge than the answer is yes, as humans are the only species yet to have developed a written language. However, some of the most advanced human societies (Incas, Mayas, etc.) never fully developed a written language, instead they relied on trained story tellers to record and transfer knowledge and identity across generational boundaries. Primal Knowledge depicts a primate perched atop a stack of aged books. There is an obvious reference made through the similarity of the contemplative pose to Rodin’s famous sculpture “The Thinker”. Primal Knowledge raises basic questions about the true nature of intelligence.
